Quinta de Cabriz

1990 – First harvest for Quinta de Cabriz.

The founders’ vision for the company (Dão Sul) and their ambition to bring life to Dão was still in its first steps.

That year, the new airport in Porto opens, named Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport.

Germany wins the World Cup.

Nelson Mandela is released and the end of the Apartheid is declared.

1993

1993 – The first stone in the Cellar in Carregal.

A dream becomes reality.

The first stone was not only a symbol of a beginning, but a landmark of a path that led us to globalization.

Creation of the society Parque EXPO 98 Inc., that would be responsible for designing, building, exploring and dismantling the Lisbon World Exposition (EXPO’98).

Entry into force of the Maastricht Treaty, starting EU’s Single Market as we know it.

New labels for Quinta de Cabriz and a wider portfolio.

That year, António Guterres is named Prime Minister. Currently, he is General-Secretary of the United Nations.

Austria, Finland and Sweden enter the European Union.

In Coimbra, dies a man named Aldolfo Correia Rocha, a Portuguese writer better known for his pseudonym Miguel Torga. A man that wrote so perfectly about Beira, the region of Dão.

1999

1999 – Opening of the Cellar (With Jorge Sampaio)

Four years after the first stone, we open the new headquarters and Cellars for Dão Sul.

The availability of the location and the cutting-edge technology give Cabriz and the region of Dão a new strength.

The Euro is now the official coin in Portugal and 10 other countries in the European Union.

Transfer of sovereignty over Macau from Portugal to China, ending a Portuguese administration over that territory that lasted over 400 years.

2002

Colheita Selecionada Quinta de cABRIZ

2002 – Colheita Selecionada

Considered, at the time, a ground-breaking look, the new design for Quinta de Cabriz enters the market with a new name, Colheita Selecionada.

With slight changes over time, that new label was used for over a decade.

It was more than a new look, it was a new attitude that allowed the brand to establish itself in the market, bringing the region of Dão into the spotlight, and making “Dão is Cabriz” its leading motto for a decade.

The Euro coins and bills start to circulate, and the Euro replaces the national currency of the 11 countries that embraced it.
On August 14th, a young man named Cristiano Ronaldo plays his first professional game for Sporting, against Inter Milan, in the third qualifying round for the Champions League. A game that, even though it ended in a goalless draw, will forever have a historical significance for Cristiano Ronaldo and for the History of Portuguese, European and International football.

2006 – “Quinta de Cabriz” becomes “Cabriz” – the design remains, the name changed

In 2008, Cabriz Colheita Selecionada 2006 is launched, shifting the name from Quinta de Cabriz to simply Cabriz, making the brand more international and appealing. This allowed the brand to develop its international endeavors, reaching, nowadays, more than 45 countries.

The democrat senator Barack Obama is elected President of the United States and is the first African American to take on the highest office in the country.

2011

Wine Spectator

2011 – Best Value Wine Spectator

In the beginning of 2011, Cabriz Colheita Selecionada 2008 is granted 90 points in the American magazine Wine Spectator.
Later that year, Cabriz is chosen, for the first time, to feature in the Top 100 of this highly regarded magazine (#42, score 90)
The Portuguese architect Eduardo de Souto Moura wins the Pritzker award, the world’s premier architecture prize.
After decades of violence in Spain, the Basque separatists from ETA declare the permanent end of their armed activity.

2015 – A change in our look

Celebrating the 25 years of Cabriz and the company Dão Sul, Cabriz is rebranded.

The idea was to update the look and make the packaging more suitable to the company’s current philosophy, without losing sight of its classical side. It was a way to bring the brand closer to all its markets, highlighting the name over all other elements.

For the first time in Portugal, the party for the defense of nature and animals elects a deputy for the Assembly of the Republic.

The US president, Barack Obama, meets with Raul Castro, the Cuban president, in the 7th Summit of the Americas, in Panama, a milestone in the History of both countries.

2016

Top Wine Sepctator

2016 – Top 100 Wine Spectator

For the second time in Cabriz’s history, Cabriz Colheita Selecionada reaches 90 points in the American magazine Wine Spectator.
Later that year, Cabriz is, once more, featured in the Top100 of the year of the same magazine, reinforcing its remarkable value for money.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa wins the elections for President of the Portuguese Republic by 52%.

In a historical referendum in the United Kingdom, the majority of the population votes for the country to leave the EU, in an action known as Brexit.

2018

Wine Spirits Top

2018 – Wine&Spirits Top 100

For the third time in its History, Cabriz Colheita Selecionada red enters the Top100 from Wine & Spirits Magazine as one of the Top Values of the Year, making it one of the wines with the best value in the world.

In 2018, Cabriz was the official brand of Feira de S. Mateus, the oldest tax-free open market in the Iberian Peninsula.

There was a great fire in the three floors of the National Museum of Brazil, in Quinta da Boa Vista, in the northern area of Rio de Janeiro. It destroyed one of the world’s biggest archives on Natural and Civilizational History. It had some of the most significant records of Brazilian knowledge in the natural and anthropological sciences, as well as several and diversified sets of items from all over the world or produced by ancient civilizations.

2017

Robert Parker Best of Value Wines

2017 – Robert Parker Best of 2017 Value Wines

In 2017, the wine critic Mark Squires, tastes and writes about Portuguese wines for the world-renowned critic, Robert Parker, and chooses Cabriz Colheita Selecionada as the best Portuguese red wine with the best value for money.

The Portuguese singer Salvador Sobral wins the 2017 edition of the Eurovision Contest, with his song “Amar pelos dois” written by his sister, Luísa Sobral, in what was Portugal’s first victory in the contest and the highest score in the history of Eurovision.

Cristiano Ronaldo is named by FIFA, for the fifth time, as the greatest football player in the world.

António Guterres, former Portuguese Prime Minister, becomes Secretary-General of the United Nations, after being elected the year before.
